Links to the major browsers to download free. Yes, Internet Explorer is not your only option.

You do not have to use the browser that came with your computer; in fact, you need to upgrade to the latest version of the browser you are using to get the most out of the internet.

Internet Explorer still has the lion's share of the market with 65%, according to Net Applications (October 2009). IE has not been available for Mac since OSX came out with Safari, which is the top internet browser for Mac. Google first released Chrome in September 2008.

The newer browsers have good support for web standards and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), unlike earlier browsers, and pages should appear pretty much the same in any browser.

Apple Safari

Safari is the default browser for Mac OS X. The current version is 4.0, with different versions for Tiger (10.4) and Leopard (10.5).

Chrome

Google's new browser.

Firefox 3.5

Open Source geared to providing good security. Owned by the Mozilla Corporation, with a goal of 'making the Internet better for everyone'.

Internet Explorer

Current version is IE 8; included in Windows 7. Not available for Mac.

Opera 10

Developed by Opera Software, Oslo, Norway. Versions for mobile phones, PDA's.
