Reunion Dates

A list of all the family reunions since 1949, with notes. Uncle Don provided the original list.

1949 Naperville, Illinois

Richie and Kenton and Terry a few weeks old were there. Roy and Prudence were "caretakers" at the camp that year and so they hosted the reunion • Bonnie and Don were in the dorm in bunkbeds, from Hazard that year with no kids.

1951 Honeybrook, Pennsylvania

This was the time Don & Bonnie got to Merrill's just as Helen and Wayne were leaving • Don drove from Frenchburg with his red Rambler convertible • Marilyn and Talley were the babies, both under one year • Merrill was moved by the Bishop that year and had to pack up and move right after the reunion.

1953 Naperville, Illlinois

1955 Frenchburg, Kentucky

The first farm reunion • Sharon nearly one

1957 Minnetonka, Minnesota

Clymer's • Didn’t Kenton catch a big pike or muskee?

1961 Ocean City, New Jersey

Merrill's at Thorndale • three story house with some on 1st and 3rd floors. Some of us kept going into visit the nice folks on the 2nd floor. • Learned body surfing • Steve didn’t know that his future wife was vacationing just a few miles south.

1963 Frenchburg, Kentucky

Hiking trip when we pushed Dad (Roy) up over a cliff • Was this when we went hiking with Ova and Terry stepped over the Copperhead? • This was the infamous burnt corn chowder reunion

1965 Frenchburg, Kentucky

Pickle picking time?? The kids got pretty good throwing the big ones at road signs on the trip to the pickle place. • Dad (Roy) died in July

1967 Frenchburg - ??

 

1969 Crosslake, Minnesota (Nelson’s Resort)

Obergs • Missippi headwaters • Steve missed, as he had to stay home to survey the county

1971 White Pine Camp, Northern Illinois

Clymers • Bonnie had had Pneumonia and missed this one • Steve was on harvest crew in Colorado

1974 Bella Vista, Arkansas

Obergs • Many stopped at Wakita on way back • Steve missed, as he had just started a new job

1976 Elam, Pennsylvania

Merrill's • Bicentennial Celebration: several people went into Philly to view the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall • Girls slept in the basement, boys in the living room, others in campers in the back yard • Young people from the church came over and we all had a game of Kickball in the front yard one day • Watching the Olympics wrestling matches in the basement on the big TV Merrill put together from a kit • Cookout at Steve and Sue's in Malvern • That was the first time for Rich and Sherry’s twins, Vivi's innauguration • The Beach

1978 Frenchburg, Kentucky

At the farm • Don misplaced Helens letter and we all went to Sky Bridge without waiting for them

1980 Minnetonka, Minnesota

Clymers • Bishop's house

1982 Villa Maria, Frontenac

Obergs • Canoed the Zumbro River • Wasn’t this the first one for Kathy Oberg?

1984 Merrill's in the Poconos, Pennsylvania

Oberg’s missed because Leona had just had a small stroke • Clymers missed due to moving????

1986 Sylvan Lake, Black Hills of South Dakota

Bonnie's home place • camping & cabins • Steve had just finished chemo and came sporting a new hairdo.

1988 Park Rapids, Minnesota

Clymers • The last time we took turns cooking • Kenton’s family, Bill Young, Doug and Paula, Don and Merrill went canoeing in the Boundry waters just before the Reunion. Eloyce, Bonnie and some of the kids stayed at Kenton’s place and we stopped and picked them up on the way to Park Rapids

1990 Camp Keola in the Sierras of California

Obergs • Steve learned “One bottle of pop” from Art • Alan, Eric & Daniel Schuster’s first reunion.

1992 Lake Junalaska, North Carolina

Merrill's • Marilyn did a lot of cooking • Picnic and tubing in the creek in the Great Smokies National Park • We also went to a nature museum where the kids were found a rather large snake in the grass out front.

1994 Camp Bighorn, Montana

Donella made arrangements • On the Clark Fork River: rode the rapids • Last reunion with Eloyce who went to be with the Lord 1995 • Steve learned to rappel down the face of a cliff again and discovered that Uncle Wayne liked to golf.

1996 Park Rapids, Minnesota

Clymers • Park Rapids again, everyone liked it so much

1998 Rocky Mt. Mennonite Camp, Colorado

Obergs, arranged by Tally & Elmer • Near Divide, CO, 30 miles west of Colorado Springs • • Bill and Terry hiked from Camp to the top of Pike’s Peak and met the rest there. • Last reunion with Aunt Helen who died the following July • Pike's Peak, Garden of The Gods, Focus on the Family, and ice cold nights for some of us campers.

2000 North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Merrill & Patty • 0n the ocean • First Reunion for Eric England? • Patty introduced to the family

2002 Sequoia State Park, Oklahoma

Don's • Ft Gibson Lake • Trail of Tears pageant (Steve's visited the Trail of Tears museum in NC later that fall)

2004 Camp Karoni, Paynesville, Minnesota

Clymers (Wayne & Virginia) • Big emphasis on family history • Last reunion for Prudence before she went to see the Lord. [Steve] wave runners were a big hit, according to Steve • First reunion for James

2006 Camp Maranantha, near North Platte, Nebraska

Obergs (Cases) • Patty’s heart got her plane trip to Lincoln • Steve missed due to starting new business • First reunion for Jessica Schuster and Carmen’s Tim.

2008 Merrills and Schusters - Williamsburg, VA

 

2010 Glorieta campground, New Mexico
